His last pitch that season was a slider William Contreras hit for a walk-off home run in Milwaukee on August 22. He had Tommy John surgery on September 24, 2025, and on October 13, 2026 he threw a scoreless first inning for the Scottsdale Scorpions at Scottsdale Stadium, his first game at any level in 417 days.
The Giants got Camilo Doval back. Now they have to decide whether to pay him
Camilo Doval, the former Giants closer traded to the Yankees in 2025, was claimed back off waivers from Pittsburgh on September 24 and said he hoped to finish his career in San Francisco. Keeping him is the one money decision in the club's arbitration class. MLB Trade Rumors' model projects the nine eligible Giants at $18.4 million, with Doval at $6.6 million. For the other eight, the decision is a roster spot on a 40-man that lists 57 names, because the room made for Doval came from moving Blade Tidwell to the 60-day injured list, which only lasts until the World Series ends. Doval walked 12.1 percent of the batters he faced in 2026. The alternative is the November market where the club found Sam Hentges and Jason Foley a year ago. No take in the body; one Called Shot filed on whether he is on the 40-man on December 2.

Kerr told fans to check the schedule before buying Curry tickets. Here it is.
Steve Kerr said after practice on Thursday, October 15, that the Warriors do not play Stephen Curry in back-to-backs and asked fans to be mindful of the schedule when buying tickets, per Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area. The league has dated 80 of Golden State's 82 regular-season games, and those 80 include 15 back-to-backs by the schedules on ESPN and Basketball Reference, which agree date for date. Six end at Chase Center: Phoenix on November 2, Detroit on January 7, Charlotte on January 13, Milwaukee on January 22, Memphis on March 17 and Toronto on March 25. All six follow a home game the night before. Kerr announced a back-to-back limit for Curry once before, in January 2025. In 2025-26 the Warriors played 16 back-to-backs and Curry played both nights of five of them, the last on January 19 and 20.

Steve Kerr made turnovers the subject of Monday's film session after counting about 90 through four preseason games; the box scores give 84. Through five games Golden State has 104, 20.8 a game, against 115 by its opponents. Last October the club had 110 in five exhibitions, then averaged 16.4 across its first five regular-season games and 15.7 across 82, team turnovers included, by ESPN's box scores. This fall the offense is new, which Kerr cited for holding off. The Warriors announced Wednesday that Kristaps Porzingis, who missed training camp and the first five preseason games, met with general manager Mike Dunleavy and Dr. Rick Celebrini at the practice facility on Tuesday and will remain out indefinitely due to the same health-related matter, but will be around the team. The club said it will give an update on a potential resumption of practice, playing status or timeline when available and appropriate. ESPN's Anthony Slater reported he is not cleared to practice. With Green and Horford resting in Tuesday's preseason game against the Lakers in Las Vegas, Charles Bassey started at center beside Stephen Curry, Brandin Podziemski, Gui Santos and Yaxel Lendeborg and played 27 minutes with 12 rebounds, and Graham Ike played 12, in a 101-89 win. The season opens October 21 at the Lakers, with a back-to-back on October 23 and 24.

The NCAA Lost On Friday And Filed For Nashville On Saturday
One day after Judge Charlotte N. Sweeney certified a nationwide class and enjoined the NCAA in Denver, the association filed a motion with the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation asking that eight eligibility cases across five districts be centralized before Chief Judge William L. Campbell Jr. in the Middle District of Tennessee. The Panel scheduled argument for September 24 in Chicago. The brief describes the Colorado class as putative and says no decision has issued, which had stopped being true the day before it was filed.

In its August 10 emergency motion to the Tenth Circuit, the NCAA argued that class members returning for a fifth season will displace younger athletes, and put the available Division I roster spots at 4,808 in women's sports and 988 in men's. The same 24-page brief describes the class as tens of thousands on one page and as thousands on another. Dan Hurley, making the identical argument at UConn on August 7, counted 80. Twice a federal judge has gone looking for evidence attached to the displacement claim and reported finding none.

A nationwide class of athletes who ran out of eligibility in the spring is now eligible for a fifth season by order of a federal court in Denver. Whether any of them can join a school other than the one they just left is a separate question, raised in an emergency motion to enforce filed August 4, fully briefed on August 10, and undecided as of August 15. Seth Trimble reached Louisville because he had entered the transfer portal in the spring, before any of this existed.

Manuel Beigel, Out on game day at Minnesota, is off the report, which makes him Available under the conference rule. Noland's judge would not pause her own order, so the NCAA has one court left
Monroe Circuit Court Judge Kara E. Krothe denied the NCAA's emergency motion to stay her September 23 preliminary injunction on October 5, finding the NCAA unlikely to win on appeal. Kenny Noland is one of the 97 plaintiffs that injunction covers. The NCAA's remaining stay request is in the Indiana Court of Appeals, where the players' response was due October 8 and no ruling had been reported by Saturday. Michigan's roster still lists seventeen players, Gayle and Noland among them, and both are expected to play in Sunday's exhibition against Eastern Michigan. Kyle Church singled out Gayle on Michigan's own podcast, and the fifth starting spot now has more candidates than it had in August.
