Golden State won four games in seven days by a combined 54 points. Brandin Podziemski was on the floor for 135 of the 192 minutes and was plus-54.

The arithmetic leaves nothing for the other 57 minutes. With Podziemski on the bench, the Warriors and their opponents scored the same number of points.

Four games and 135 minutes is a small sample, and plus-minus is the noisiest number in a box score. It is also the number that matches what the rotation did, because Podziemski is the player Steve Kerr kept on the floor.

ESPN box scores for October 26 at Denver, October 28 at Minnesota, October 30 against the Lakers and November 1 against the Clippers, summed and rounded to the minute. Curry and Green sat Sunday; Santos missed Minnesota with knee tendinitis.

Podziemski played 33, 32, 33 and 37 minutes. He and Lendeborg were the only Warriors to start all four. The 37 on Sunday came with Curry and Green both out, with Melton starting beside him, and the club still won by 12.

His line for the week was 64 points on 23 of 48 shooting, 25 assists, 25 rebounds and 4 turnovers. Warriors players were charged with 64 turnovers in the four games. He had four of them.

The two nights he missed#

The season so far splits cleanly on one name. With Podziemski, Golden State is 4-1. Without him, 0-2.

RecordGames
Podziemski played4-1Memphis, Denver, Minnesota, Lakers, Clippers
Podziemski did not0-2at Lakers October 21, at Phoenix October 24

He missed the opener with lower back soreness, Anthony Slater of ESPN reported, and sat at Phoenix with what ESPN's box score lists as lower back injury management. The one loss he played in was 111-108 to Memphis, when he played 33 minutes and finished even.

Two games is not a finding. Curry and Green also missed Phoenix, and each is 3-2 in games he played and 1-1 in games he did not. Charles Bassey, who missed the opener and Memphis, splits exactly the way Podziemski does, 4-1 and 0-2, and played 33 minutes all week. A two-game split cannot tell those two men apart.

The other half of the week#

The Warriors shot better, and that was not Podziemski's doing. They made 77 of 174 threes in the four wins, 44 percent, after 39 of 116 in the three losses. He was 9 of 24.

The defense moved the other way at the same time. Opponents made 50 of 152 threes in the four wins after 40 of 104 in the losses, and averaged 109 points after 123. Denver and Minnesota each scored 114. The Lakers scored 95.

The center minutes changed too. Graham Ike started two of the first three games and played 9 minutes in the four wins. Horford played between 17 and 22 off the bench every night, and Charles Bassey started Sunday and played 20.

Monday and the second night#

Phoenix comes to Chase Center on Monday at 7 p.m. Pacific, the second night of the back-to-back. ESPN's injury report lists Curry and Green as returning Monday. Gui Santos sat the second half on Sunday with knee tendinitis, Danny Emerman of the San Francisco Standard reported, and ESPN lists him day-to-day with a projected return Thursday against Miami. Podziemski is not on the report.

The last second night was at Phoenix, and he did not play it.

He has averaged 33.6 minutes in five games. He averaged 28.5 last season, when he played all 82.

The read: Podziemski averages 32 or more minutes in the November games he plays. That counts the 37 on Sunday and runs through the game at Chase Center on November 29. The case for it is that he has played at least 32 in all five of his games, four of them alongside Curry and Green. The case against is his own 2025-26 season, 28.5 a night across 82 games, and a calendar with a second night of a back-to-back on Monday and another at Memphis on November 19.

ESPN box scores for events 401909092 (October 21 at the Lakers), 401909850 (October 23 against Memphis) and 401909860 (October 24 at Phoenix) for the three losses. Podziemski's opener absence from Anthony Slater, ESPN, October 20, 2026. Santos's status from Danny Emerman, San Francisco Standard, as carried on ESPN's Warriors injury report, November 1, 2026, which also lists Curry's and Green's return date. Lendeborg leads the Warriors in minutes, and Sunday starts a back-to-back

Golden State is 2-3 after five games, four of them on the road, and plays its next six at home: the Lakers on Friday, October 30, the Clippers on Sunday, November 1, Phoenix on Monday, November 2, then Miami, Orlando and New Orleans through November 9. Sunday and Monday are the second back-to-back of the season. On the first, October 23 and 24, Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, Al Horford and Brandin Podziemski did not play the second night and rookie Yaxel Lendeborg played 37 and 36 minutes. By ESPN box scores Lendeborg has played 168 minutes in five games, 29 or more in every one, the most on the team. He carried a foot listing into Wednesday's win at Minnesota and played 35 minutes.

The Warriors scored 122 on the night Curry, Green and Horford sat

Golden State opened 2026-27 at 0-3: 127-105 at the Lakers on October 21, 111-108 to Memphis on October 23 and 131-122 at Phoenix on October 24. Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Al Horford played the first two and sat the third, the second night of a back-to-back, with Brandin Podziemski, who played only the Memphis game. By ESPN box scores the Warriors shot 41 percent in each of the two games the veterans played and 22 of 77 from three; on the night they sat the club shot 45 percent and 17 of 39. Opponents shot 136 of 253, 54 percent, across the three games. Rookie Yaxel Lendeborg led Golden State in minutes all three nights, 102 in total, with 29 against the Lakers, 37 against Memphis and 36 at Phoenix. The club is at Denver on Monday, and ESPN's injury notes of October 25 list Gui Santos questionable with left knee tendinitis, Brandon Williams and Charles Bassey probable, and none of the four veterans on the report.

Curry and Podziemski are not expected at Phoenix, a night after Ike started

Stephen Curry said 'Probably not, but I'll talk to the staff' when asked Friday night about playing at Phoenix on Saturday, per Kevin Topley of NBC Sports Bay Area, and Anthony Slater of ESPN reported that Curry is expected to rest and that Brandin Podziemski will miss the game with back soreness. Podziemski said he 'tweaked it a little bit, nothing too serious.' It is the second game of Golden State's first back-to-back, eight days after Steve Kerr said the club does not play Curry in back-to-backs. On Friday the Warriors started Graham Ike, a two-way center, against Memphis with Charles Bassey out with a knee injury; Ike scored 10 points in 12 minutes. Golden State led 106-94 with 3:47 left, did not make another field goal, and lost 111-108 to fall to 0-2. Jimmy Butler, Moses Moody and Kristaps Porzingis are also out.

Held upAug 10, 2026

Golden State's apron-basis team salary is still above the first apron of $209,015,000 on opening night of the 2026-27 season.

This is the behavioural half of my own argument and it is the part that can be wrong. The legal analysis is not a prediction: while the Warriors sit at $216,439,590 in apron allocations, the mid-level, the bi-annual and the Jackson-Davis trade exception are all barred, and that follows from published rules rather than from my judgment. What is a judgment is that the club leaves it that way. NOTE REWRITTEN 2026-08-10 by Cam Ellis, claim and resolve_by unchanged: the original note named the routes out as Moses Moody's $12,500,000 or two of Al Horford, Yaxel Lendeborg, De'Anthony Melton and Brandin Podziemski, and that list was built off a roster read that omitted Kristaps Porzingis. Porzingis is on this roster at $20,000,000, his contract is inside the $216,439,590, and he is trade-eligible through the offseason because his June 30 extension does not exceed the extend-and-trade limits, so he is the largest movable route under the apron rather than an absent one. The list was also missing the calendar: Bassey, Draymond Green, Horford, Melton and Payton II cannot be traded until December 15, which is five of the thirteen standard contracts and two of the four mid-sized salaries the original note leaned on. So the call is now made against a wider set of legal routes than I first counted, which makes it a harder call rather than an easier one. I am still calling that Golden State does not pay a rotation player to unlock an exception that would immediately hard-cap it at the line it just crossed under. Scoreable against any published opening-night cap sheet on the apron basis, which is the basis that includes likely incentives. If they get under, I am wrong, and the whole piece was describing a temporary condition rather than the season's shape.

Golden State moved Curry's night off to the Clippers

Stephen Curry and Draymond Green are out for Golden State's home game against the LA Clippers on Sunday, November 1, the first night of a back-to-back that ends at home against Phoenix on Monday, November 2. NBC Sports Bay Area's Ali Thanawalla reported on October 31 that Curry is out managing his right knee and Green resting a bilateral low back injury, and that both are likely available Monday. In the season's first back-to-back, on October 23 and 24, both played the first night against Memphis and sat the second at Phoenix, where the Suns won 131-122.

The Lakers won the first quarter 38-15. The Warriors won the second 38-15.

The Golden State Warriors beat the Los Angeles Lakers 112-95 at Chase Center on Friday, October 30, in an NBA Cup group game, after trailing 38-15 at the end of the first quarter. They won the second quarter 38-15 to tie the game 53-53 at halftime. The Associated Press reported that no team in the shot-clock era, regular season or playoffs, had trailed by 23 or more after one quarter and been tied or ahead at halftime, and that the 17-point margin is the largest in that era for a team down 20 or more after one. The previous best was Golden State's 124-110 win over Chicago on March 4, 1976, after trailing 41-18. Stephen Curry scored 31 points, made 8 of 14 3-pointers and passed Dominique Wilkins (26,668) for 18th on the NBA's career scoring list; he has 26,674, 36 behind Oscar Robertson. Luka Doncic scored 37, 21 of them in the first quarter. Golden State is 3-3 after an 0-3 start and plays the Clippers at home on Sunday.

Horford played both nights of no back-to-back last season, and Friday starts one

Golden State lost its opener 127-105 at the Lakers on October 21 and plays four games in six nights from Friday: Memphis at Chase Center on October 23, at Phoenix on October 24, at Denver on October 26 and at Minnesota on October 28. The first two are the season's first back-to-back. Kristaps Porzingis is not expected around the team in the immediate future, the club said Wednesday, and ESPN reported the Warriors are exploring trades for him. Charles Bassey did not play Wednesday with a knee injury. That left the center minutes to Draymond Green, 21, and Al Horford, 17, with two-way big man Graham Ike playing 12, while Walker Kessler scored 26 points on 12-of-12 shooting for Los Angeles. Across Golden State's 16 back-to-backs in 2025-26, by ESPN game logs, Green played both nights of eight, Stephen Curry both nights of five and Horford both nights of none. Golden State opened with all 15 standard roster spots filled, Brandon Williams among them, and sits $347,568 under the second-apron hard cap, by Spotrac.

The Warriors have one center who shoots threes, one night at a time

Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy said at media day on Monday, September 28, that Kristaps Porzingis is out indefinitely with a health issue the club learned of on Sunday, and that he will not travel to training camp at BYU-Hawaii. The club gave no timeline and did not describe the issue. Steve Kerr said the same day that Golden State is 'playing a more modern brand of basketball now, five-out.' Basketball Reference lists three centers on the roster. Porzingis took 74 threes in 356 minutes for Golden State last season; Al Horford took 205 in 969; Charles Bassey has taken 13 in 1,410 career minutes. Horford, 40, did not play on consecutive days last season: of Golden State's 16 back-to-backs he played one night 12 times and neither night four times, per his game logs at Basketball Reference and ESPN. Golden State's first back-to-back of 2026-27 is Memphis at Chase Center on October 23 and Phoenix on the road on October 24. Butler and Moody traveled to Hawaii with no return timeline.

Vogel gets the Warriors defense, and its shot blockers played 1,425 minutes

Golden State blocked 346 shots in 2025-26, 4.2 a game, 26th in the league, and pulled down 31.0 defensive rebounds a game, 25th. It also finished second in steals and sixth in turnovers forced. Three men who are still under contract blocked shots at better than 1.5 per 36 minutes last season: Charles Bassey at 2.52 on 100 minutes, Al Horford at 1.89, Kristaps Porzingis at 1.62. They played 1,425 of the team's 19,805 minutes, 7.2 percent, across 65 games. The next rate on the list is Draymond Green's 0.81. Quinten Post and Trayce Jackson-Davis, third and eighth on the team in blocks, are gone, and with the other departures go 75 of the 346 blocks and 578 of the 2,540 defensive rebounds. The three players added since are a rookie forward, a power forward and a guard. Frank Vogel was announced as associate head coach on September 17 and Steve Kerr says he is turning the defense over to him. Vogel's twelve seasons as a head coach produced three defenses that finished first in the league and two that finished third. Camp opens in Hawaii on September 29. Two takes filed.

Brandon Williams Will Be Paid More Than Golden State Is Charged For Him

Free agent guard Brandon Williams agreed to a one-year, $2.6 million deal with the Warriors on Tuesday, reported by Shams Charania at ESPN through agents Derek Lafayette and Curtis Lawrence. The figure is the four-year veteran minimum of $2,625,627 for 2026-27. Because the league reimburses part of a one-year minimum signed by a veteran of three or more years, the charge against Golden State is fixed at $2,449,421, the two-year minimum, and the difference of $176,206 is the league's. Williams becomes the 14th man on a roster that carried 12 fully guaranteed standard contracts plus Charles Bassey on a partial one, against a limit of 15. He averaged 13.0 points, 3.9 assists and 2.9 rebounds in 22.2 minutes across 66 games for Dallas last season, and 10.7 points in 19.3 minutes across 140 career games and 34 starts in four seasons since Portland. ESPN reported Tuesday that Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody will miss the opening months of the season rehabilitating knee injuries. No take is filed with this piece; three open calls on the ledger already run into it.
