San Jose hosts the Rookie Faceoff from September 12 to 15 at Tech CU Arena and Sharks Ice, playing Los Angeles on the 12th and Utah on the 13th, and five of its draft picks are barred from it because they are enrolled college players: Keaton Verhoeff at North Dakota, Ryan Lin at Denver, Haoxi Wang at Boston University, Joshua Ravensbergen at Michigan State and Cole McKinney at Michigan. College Hockey Inc's eligibility rules allow a student-athlete to attend an NHL development camp and forbid him from playing in a rookie tournament.
