If you want to know what a healthy farm system looks like in the middle of May, this is more or less the picture. Jhonny Level homered four times at San Jose and is now slugging .575 at age 18. Parks Harber went 7 for 20 with a home run and seven walks at Double-A and is hitting .327 with a .987 OPS. Drew Cavanaugh got called up to AAA and immediately hit .381 with four doubles and two homers in five games. Joe Whitman and Carson Whisenhunt threw matching shutouts at AA and AAA respectively. Argenis Cayama threw five no hit innings at Single-A. The DSL season has not even started yet and we are running out of room.

Up at the top of the Top 10, the news is less dramatic and that is fine. Bryce Eldridge stopped going backwards (.231 / .333 / .308 in four MLB games, three strikeouts, two walks; the .343 OPS floor from last week is now a .641 ceiling). Josuar Gonzalez ran a 1.250 ACL OPS and is now hitting .421 / .551 / .658 for the season. Luis Hernandez cooled to a perfectly reasonable .794 L7 OPS and is at .328 / .395 / .642 with four home runs in seventeen games. Bo Davidson had the only really cold week (.535 L7 OPS, five strikeouts in 16 AB), which makes you wonder if there is a quiet injury or just a quiet slump.

The bottom of the list also got loud. Lorenzo Meola backed up last week's three homer outburst with another 1.017 OPS week. Jean Carlos Sio, whom we had at #49 with the cheerful and incorrect note "stats not available", has a 1.087 OPS in ten games at Eugene with three home runs. Apologies to Sio, who joins Luis Hernandez and Aeverson Arteaga in the small but growing list of players this rotation has owed a real ranking review to. Trevor McDonald had the bad day everyone gets eventually (3.2 IP, 7 ER in San Francisco), and Maui Ahuna struck out fourteen times in nineteen at bats, which is not a stat line that survives a long flight home.

Reshuffles this week: Parks Harber #17 to #13 on the back-to-back AA bombings (Cam Maldonado 13 to 14, Jacob Bresnahan 14 to 15, Carson Whisenhunt 15 to 16, Daniel Susac 16 to 17). The rest of the order holds; Jean Carlos Sio's real review is coming next week pending one more clean look at the High-A line.

Quiet step forward at the major league level. Four games, three hits including a double, two walks, three strikeouts. The OPS climbs from a .343 floor last week to a stable-looking .641, and the strikeout rate quietly dropped under 20 percent. Nobody is throwing a parade for a .231 batting average, but for a 21 year old who was getting overwhelmed two weeks ago the trend lines are pointing the correct direction.

Four games, four hits including a triple, three walks, one strikeout, two stolen bases. The walk to strikeout ratio is now 11 to 10 on the season. The slash line is .421 / .551 / .658 with a 1.209 OPS. Eighteen years old in the ACL and trying to make us run out of synonyms for ridiculous.

Last week was the first cold week of the season; this week was the apology card. Six games, nine hits, four home runs, thirteen RBI, a 1.233 OPS. Season slugging climbed fifty points to .575. He had a four hit Saturday with two homers and a double, and the box score reads like somebody finally let him out of the cage. Eighteen and slugging .575 in full season ball.

Five games, seven singles, one walk, two strikeouts. Empty .318. Nobody is calling Kilen's profile boring as an insult; this is the player you want hitting .311 with a sub 17 percent strikeout rate. The lack of any extra base hit in five games is the only thing worth filing away.

Five games, five hits including a double and a triple, two walks, zero strikeouts. He cooled off the L7 OPS from 1.231 to a perfectly reasonable .794 and the season line is now .328 / .395 / .642 with four home runs in seventeen games. The zero strikeout L7 is the part where the pro scouts call each other on the way home from the complex.

Four games, two hits, one of which was a home run, five strikeouts. The season slash is now flirting with the wrong side of comfortable. He went from #4 to #6 two weeks ago; this is the week that earned that move retroactively. The bat speed and contact ability are still there; the .268 average is doing the explaining.

Six games, five hits including two doubles, zero walks, exactly one strikeout. The contact profile is staying remarkably tight at the major league level (he is at 21 K in 101 AB) and that is the thing keeping him on the roster while the slugging stays modest. The fourth outfielder profile is the floor; nobody has built the staircase to the next thing yet.

Six games, six hits, two doubles, two walks, eight strikeouts, two stolen bases. The 33 percent strikeout rate in the L7 is the thing that keeps him pinned to High-A while the rest of the profile suggests Double-A is the right room. Until the K rate moderates the promotion is going to wait.

Three games, five at bats, two hits, two walks, one strikeout. Tiny sample because he is the backup catcher and the lineup is what it is, but a .971 L7 OPS with a 2-to-1 walk to strikeout ratio is the kind of thing you take when you are getting Tuesday starts. The .330 AAA line is still doing the heavy lifting.

One start, four innings, two earned runs, three hits, four walks, five strikeouts. Same story for the third week running: he gets the strikeout rate (33 in 27.2 IP for the season) and he gives back six free 90 footers a week. The slider is the K pitch; the fastball command is the homework.

Parks Harber jumps from #17 to #13 because we are no longer pretending the heater is a small sample (six homers, ten doubles, a .987 OPS at AA, and a 7-walk week to remind you he is also patient). Joe Whitman threw his fourth scoreless start of the month: six innings, two hits, no walks, eight strikeouts. He now has fifty six strikeouts in 44.1 innings with a 0.97 WHIP. Carson Whisenhunt matched him with six shutout AAA innings of his own; the rotation in Sacramento is currently the kind of thing the major league club should be paying close attention to. Trevor McDonald gave back the goodwill from his last MLB outing with a three and two thirds inning, seven earned run mess against the Phillies. Argenis Cayama threw five no run no walk innings in San Jose with five strikeouts, which is the sentence we have wanted to write about him since April.

Drew Cavanaugh got the AAA call up and immediately ran a 1.266 OPS in his first five games (four doubles, two homers, six RBI). He is the kind of catcher who is going to keep getting promoted because the bat refuses to acknowledge the level change. Scott Bandura also got moved to AAA and is finding his feet (.200 in 5 games, three walks).
