Bar under each GB figure is games ahead of the worst record in baseball. A short bar is a bad team.San Francisco, the row this page is about.
Top 10 only: the Giants cannot pick above it, so the rest of the board is somebody else's problem. San Francisco's bar is the shortest below the lottery line, which is the whole problem: the same record picks 4th above the line. San Francisco has the fourth-worst record in baseball and it is worth nothing. The Giants are ineligible for the 2027 draft lottery. Under the collective bargaining agreement, a club that pays into revenue sharing cannot receive a lottery pick in consecutive years, and the Giants used theirs on the No. 4 selection in the 2026 draft. Picks 1 through 6 are drawn in the lottery; San Francisco cannot be in it, and their pick cannot land higher than 10th no matter how the rest of the season goes. The White Sox are stuck the same way. The Pirates are out too, as a revenue-sharing recipient who would otherwise be in three straight lotteries.
This is the rare season where winning costs a bad team nothing. The floor is already set at 10th, so every additional loss buys exactly zero draft position. The only thing losing protects is a slot that is not under threat: the next team on the board, Cincinnati at 69-75, sits 9.5 games away. The Giants would have to go on a long run to give the pick away. Losing on purpose from here is all downside. There is no tank to root for, so root for the wins.
