Tidwell is the fourth young Giants starter sent for elbow surgery since March

The Giants placed Blade Tidwell on the 15-day injured list on September 22 and recalled Braxton Roxby from Sacramento. Tidwell left his start against Minnesota on September 21 in the fourth inning with right elbow discomfort; an MRI showed what the club's injury page calls a moderate to high-grade UCL sprain, and team orthopedist Dr. Kenneth Akizuki recommended surgery. The page lists his expected return as 2028. He is the fourth starter on the club to reach that ligament in 2026, after Hayden Birdsong (Tommy John surgery March 25), Trevor McDonald (August 5) and Carson Whisenhunt (September 16). All four are 25 and were born within 314 days of each other. The club's own expected-return column reads 2027 for Birdsong, late 2027 or 2028 for McDonald, and 2028 for Whisenhunt and Tidwell. The same day, Landen Roupp was shut down healthy at a career-high 155 innings. Two takes filed.

San Francisco Got The Better MRI And Called Up A Man Who Has Never Pitched Up Here

San Francisco placed Adrian Houser on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with a right forearm strain, transferred Carson Whisenhunt to the 60-day list, and selected the contract of right-hander Braxton Roxby from Triple-A Sacramento. Roxby is 27, has pitched in 211 professional games across six seasons, and has never appeared in a major league game. He came to the Giants in January 2025 as the return in a salary trade. His strikeout rate at Sacramento this year is 22.6 percent, against 30.8 percent across his five previous professional seasons. Houser's 2022 flexor strain in the same arm cost him 54 days; the Giants have 32 left before their last scheduled game on September 27.
