🤝 The practice squad

Seventeen men, which is this club's maximum. A practice squad holds sixteen, and a seventeenth is allowed when one man is an International Player Pathway exemption. Isaac Alarcón is San Francisco's, per Matt Maiocco, carried by Patrick Holloway and Kyle Posey at Niners Nation, Aug 31, 4:28pm PT. The club's roster page lists twelve of the seventeen under Practice Squad. The other five appear on that page under other headings, which is a defect in the club's page rather than a question about the players. Both groups are below, and which is which is stated.

📈 Transactions

Every roster move, newest first, each one carrying the source that established it. Ten most recent days.

Monday, Sep 7
BRAYDEN WILLIS IS BACK ON THE PRACTICE SQUAD, and yesterday's intended move is now a completed one. The club announced the signing itself, on its own account: "The San Francisco 49ers today announced they have signed TE Brayden Willis to the team's practice squad." It waived him on Sep 5 to make room for long snapper Jon Weeks and had him back inside twenty-four hours without his leaving Australia. The practice squad goes 16 to 17.
SEVENTEEN IS THE CEILING AND SAN FRANCISCO IS ON IT. A practice squad holds sixteen, plus a seventeenth when one man is an International Player Pathway exemption. Isaac Alarcón is that man here, per Matt Maiocco, carried by Patrick Holloway and Kyle Posey at Niners Nation on Aug 31 at 4:28pm PT. Every remaining addition now costs a subtraction.
THE CLUB ANNOUNCED A MOVE ITS OWN TRANSACTION LOG DOES NOT CARRY. That log, read at 2:58pm PT, ends on Sep 5 with the Weeks promotion and the Willis waiver, and has no entry for Sep 6 or Sep 7. Its roster page has moved Willis under "DEV", where Kevin Givens sits, so the two club documents disagree about a signing the club itself published. Counted by name, reported, never inherited. Yesterday this page recorded him alone under a heading reading "ACT"; that heading is gone.
KHALID KAREEM HAS NO JERSEY NUMBER ON THE CLUB'S ACTIVE TABLE, which is the second name on that table with an empty number column and the only one who genuinely belongs there. He signed to the active roster on Sep 4 on the club's own transaction log. The other blank is Brandon Codrington, a practice-squad man. A blank number column is not evidence about a player's status, in either direction.
THE WEBSITE DEPTH CHART DID NOT MOVE. Read at 2:57pm PT, it still stamps itself "Last Updated on 09/4/26", still lists Sam Okuayinonu second at left end three days after he went on injured reserve, still lists Brayden Willis at tight end, and still carries an empty long-snapper box while Jon Weeks has been on the active roster since Sep 5. This is the chart on the club website, not the Week 1 chart the club released to media.
NOTHING ELSE MOVED. Active 53 by name, practice squad 17, injured reserve 12, two on the club's Active/Physically Unable to Perform list. Read table by table at 2:58pm PT: the club's Active table holds 54 rows and one of them is Codrington, so 54 minus one is 53.
Sunday, Sep 6
THE CLUB REWROTE ITS PUBLIC DEPTH CHART AND LEFT GUARD HAS A NAME IN IT. The page at 49ers.com/team/depth-chart, read at 2:52pm PT, stamps itself "Last Updated on 09/4/26" and lists Connor Colby first at left guard with Carver Willis second. That box had been empty since 08/27/26. Jarrett Patterson is listed second at centre, not at guard. Kaelon Black is second at running back ahead of Jordan James, which is the other job Kyle Shanahan called fluid on Aug 31. George Kittle and Nick Bosa are both listed first. NO ROSTER ROW MOVES ON THIS: a depth chart is a communications-staff document and this page records transactions.
BRAYDEN WILLIS CLEARED WAIVERS UNCLAIMED and is expected back on the practice squad, per Kyle Posey, Niners Nation, Sep 6, 2:21pm PT, who adds that Willis did not leave Australia, per Matt Maiocco. Matt Barrows flagged the possibility on Sep 5. HIS ROW HAS NOT MOVED. The return is a report of an intended move rather than a completed one, and the club has processed nothing: its own roster page still carries him alone, at 2:53pm PT.
A NEW DEFECT ON THE CLUB'S ROSTER PAGE, and it is the fifth of its kind. Brayden Willis, waived Sep 5, now sits by himself under a heading that reads "ACT". Counted by name and reported, never inherited: he is not on the active roster and this page does not carry him there.
NOTHING ELSE MOVED. Active 53 by name, practice squad 16, injured reserve 12, two on the club's Active/Physically Unable to Perform list. Read table by table off the club's own page at 2:53pm PT, the same counts as the 4:38am read.
Saturday, Sep 5
THE CLUB'S OWN ROSTER PAGE IS BEHIND THE CLUB'S OWN WIRE, AND THAT IS A CLAUSE RATHER THAN A FINDING.
Friday, Sep 4
SAM OKUAYINONU IS OUT FOR WEEK 1, AND THIS ROW'S OWN FALSIFIER IS WHAT FIRED.
THE DEFENSIVE LINE FOR THURSDAY IS THE EIGHT WHO FLEW, AND FOUR OF THE EIGHT HAD SOMETHING ON THEM ON WEDNESDAY.
AND YESTERDAY'S SINGLE-FEED DIMUKEJE SETTLEMENT IS STILL SINGLE-FEED. The club's own roster still carries him on injured reserve.
Thursday, Sep 3
SAM OKUAYINONU DID NOT GET ON THE PLANE. A foot, announced shortly before departure, and the club listed him QUESTIONABLE rather than ruling him out.
THE CLUB IS ON THE GROUND IN MELBOURNE. It landed Friday morning local time, six days before kickoff, and the Rams do not arrive until the day before.
VICTOR DIMUKEJE IS OFF THE ROSTER. An injury settlement removed him from injured reserve, seventeen days after he signed.
THE EIGHT WHO FLEW, AND THREE OF THEM DID NOT PRACTISE ON WEDNESDAY.
Wednesday, Sep 2
THE PARTICIPATION ARITHMETIC, AND IT CLOSES: nine out Tuesday, six out Wednesday, four back and one added.
CORRECTED SEP 3. This item said left guard was not named and that the empty box flew empty. A club-released Week 1 depth chart naming Connor Colby first at left guard went out Wednesday and was not public here when this was written. Everything below is about a DIFFERENT document, the chart on the club website, and it still holds about that one.
George Kittle has had three straight days of team work, and the third was on the way out the door.
A DEFENSIVE TACKLE VISITED ON A DAY TWO DEFENSIVE TACKLES DID NOT PRACTISE, and the club signed nobody.
THE LONG SNAPPER FLEW UNRESOLVED. There is still no long snapper on the active roster.
Tuesday, Sep 1
LEFT GUARD IS NOT DECIDED, and the field grew rather than narrowed. Colby, Willis and now Patterson, with ONE practice left before the club flies.
THE CLUB'S OWN DEPTH CHART HAS ONE EMPTY STARTER BOX AND IT IS LEFT GUARD. Twenty-eight of twenty-nine positions carry a first-team name.
TUESDAY'S PRACTICE: nine men out and not one of them an offensive lineman.
THE LONG SNAPPER QUESTION IS STILL OPEN on the last full day before the flight.
Monday, Aug 31
Nate Hobbs, on the announced 53 for a day, to INJURED RESERVE. Groin. He misses at least the first four games.
Nick Martin, on the announced 53 for a day, to INJURED RESERVE. Hamstring. Same four-game floor.
Ashtyn Davis and Corliss Waitman re-signed to one-year deals, back on the roster twenty-four hours after being released.
THE PUNTER QUESTION IS CLOSED. THE LONG SNAPPER QUESTION IS NOT.
WAIVERS. San Francisco claimed nobody and lost two men: Darrell Luter Jr. to Las Vegas and Bryson Eason to Kansas City.
JARRETT PATTERSON IS ON THE CLUB'S OWN ROSTER PAGE. Sunday's one-man gap between the books is closed.
Sunday, Aug 30, EVENING
THE ANNOUNCEMENT. Thirty-nine moves in one release, and every row below was set from it rather than from any reporter.
SAN FRANCISCO ANNOUNCED A ROSTER WITH NO PUNTER AND NO LONG SNAPPER. Eddy Piñeiro is the only specialist on it.
THE CLUB'S OWN DOCUMENTS TOTAL FIFTY-TWO, NOT FIFTY-THREE, AND THE MISSING MAN IS JARRETT PATTERSON.
