Tito Horford was drafted 39th by Milwaukee in 1988 and played 63 NBA games over three seasons for the Bucks and the Washington Bullets: 376 minutes, 93 points, no starts. His son Al, born in Puerto Plata in 1986 and sent to Michigan at 14, passed both totals within 22 days of his own debut for Atlanta in November 2007. Al played 141 playoff games before his first Finals game, at Golden State in June 2022, won a title with Boston in 2024 at 38, signed with the Warriors on October 1, 2025, and turned 40 in June. The Warriors open the 2026-27 season at the Lakers on October 21, a year to the day after his first game for them, in the same building.

He had Tommy John surgery on September 24, 2025, and on October 13, 2026 he threw a scoreless first inning for the Scottsdale Scorpions at Scottsdale Stadium, his first game at any level in 417 days.

Mike Boynton Jr. became Oklahoma State's head coach on March 24, 2017, at 35, after Brad Underwood left for Illinois. His tenure ran through the federal college basketball corruption case, an NCAA postseason ban he called 'the greatest disappointment in my career as a head coach,' and one NCAA tournament with Cade Cunningham, and ended on March 14, 2024, at 119-109. Michigan named him an assistant on Dusty May's staff on April 18, 2024. He coordinated the defense of the 2026 national champion, became interim head coach when May left for the Dallas Mavericks in June, and was named head coach on July 10, 2026.

Tim Ream retired from the United States national team on September 29, 2026, in St. Louis, before a 4-2 win over Chile. He finishes with 86 caps. His second cap came against Chile in January 2011. He fell out of the team after the 2011 Gold Cup, again during Jurgen Klinsmann's tenure, and again after the first qualifier of the 2022 cycle, and was named to the 2022 World Cup roster 12 days before the opener only after injuries to Miles Robinson and Chris Richards. He started all four matches in Qatar at 35. Sixty of his caps came after 2018. Mauricio Pochettino named him captain before the 2026 World Cup, where he started and captained four of five matches and became the oldest field player the United States has used at a World Cup.

He started on KNBR part-time in 1990 and became Duane Kuiper's full-time partner in 1994; counted from 1990 it is thirty-seven seasons, the count he uses himself. Rafael Devers played third base in every one of his first eight major league seasons, 951 games in all, and has played nine innings there since. All nine came on September 2, 2025 at Coors Field, after home plate umpire Phil Cuzzi ejected Matt Chapman in the top of the first and Devers moved across the infield. He handled three chances, threw all three to first base and has not played the position again. In February 2025 he told reporters at Red Sox spring training that third base was his position. In March, Alex Cora announced on WEEI that Alex Bregman would play there and Devers would be the designated hitter. In May, after Triston Casas was lost for the season, Devers declined a request to play first base and said Boston had told him to put his glove away. Boston traded him to San Francisco on June 15, 2025. He made his first career start at first base on July 22 at Atlanta, wearing a glove he said he had ordered on his second day with the Giants. He played 100 games at first base in 2026 and was the designated hitter in 48, carrying a core muscle injury the club says he chose to keep playing through, and finished with 37 home runs and 98 RBIs in 148 games. Alex Barré-Boulet is 29, from Montmagny, Quebec, and was never drafted. In eight seasons in the American Hockey League he has played 428 games and scored 435 points, a total the Sharks' own signing release and hockeydb's career table produce independently and identically. In the National Hockey League he has played 72 games and scored 19 points. Last season with the Colorado Eagles he finished second in the AHL with 70 points in 70 games and was named to the league's First All-Star Team on April 16, the same Thursday Colorado recalled him and he played thirteen minutes against Seattle without a shot on goal. San Jose signed him on July 1 to a two-year, two-way contract paying $850,000 in the NHL and $550,000 in the AHL. His first professional contract, signed with Tampa Bay on March 1, 2018, paid $70,000 in the minors.

Stephen Curry became eligible on August 29 to extend a contract that pays him $62,587,158 this season and makes him the highest-paid player in the league. The most he can add is two years and $136.7 million, because the NBA's Over-38 Rule will not let him be under contract for more than three. He spoke about it for the first time on Monday, at the seventh annual Workday Charity Classic at the Palo Alto Hills Golf & Country Club, and said the deal will happen at the right time. Anthony Slater reported on September 1 that the Warriors are not negotiating at all: they have laid out the one-year max, the two-year max and waiting, and told him to pick. The eligibility runs until his contract expires on June 30, 2027, and if he waits past that and reaches free agency he can sign for three years instead of two.

Carver Willis Is Missing One Step, And It Is Picking His Position For Him
Carver Willis is 24, from Durango, Colorado, and arrived in San Francisco after six college seasons, five at Kansas State and one at Washington, 45 games and 28 starts, every one of them at tackle and none at guard. He sold himself to the league as a man who could back up all five offensive line positions, and he took reps at all five at the Senior Bowl and at Washington's pro day. John Chapman, a former coach who breaks down 49ers film on his own podcast, says the reason Willis blocks so well in the run game and so badly in pass protection is one specific thing: he has no true anchor step, he bends at the waist rather than the knees, and interior linemen get under his shoulder pads and lift. Chapman says a center goes one-on-one in pass protection roughly three to six times a game against seven to fifteen for a guard, which is why a lineman who cannot anchor keeps getting moved inside. San Francisco has already moved Willis from tackle to guard, and he has taken reps at center. The club says the left guard job is down to Willis and Connor Colby, with Kyle Shanahan calling it close to being decided and Thursday night at Las Vegas the last evaluation. The roster is due Sunday at 3:00 p.m. PT and the season opens against the Rams in Melbourne on September 10.

Andrew Knizner is 31, was drafted in the seventh round in 2016, and has spent a decade being employed for the half of catching that never reaches a batting line. Seattle released him in March. Colorado released him in June. His Boston contract ended on August 7. Four days later the Giants signed him, and the last major league inning he caught was in their building, on September 27, a year to the day before their season ends.
