Two Men On The 49ers' Injured Reserve Page Do Not Work There Anymore

Titus Leo, Tanner McLachlan and Xavier Thomas were terminated off injured reserve this week, and the league's own waivers wire is the only place those terminations are written down. The club has announced none of them. Both commercial books that price San Francisco's roster now carry five men on injured reserve where the club's own page carries seven, and the two extra names are the two the league says are gone. The roster is due Sunday at 3:00 p.m. PT.

A 49ers player in a white practice jersey and gold helmet drives a red blocking pad off his shoulder on a practice field at the club's Santa Clara facility, a coach in a black shirt and visor a step behind him. The number on his chest is hidden behind the pad and the man is not identified here.

San Francisco has taken three players off injured reserve since Monday, and the record of their leaving sits in one place.

The league's waivers wire, read Wednesday afternoon, carries Titus Leo and Tanner McLachlan dated August 25, each row reading "Terminated Via Waivers, all contracts." Xavier Thomas is dated August 26 and reads the same. All three are now free agents.

Each has a step before that one, and the three steps are not the same transaction. Leo was "Waived, Injury Settlement" on August 24. Thomas was "Waived, Injury Settlement" on August 25. McLachlan was "Waived, No Recall" on August 24. A settlement is a club and an injured player agreeing on a figure and parting. No recall is the club letting him go without one. The wire draws that line on its own face, and two of these three carry it while the third does not.

The 49ers have announced none of it. Their transaction log's newest entry is dated August 25 and it is the Deion Jones trade. There is no entry dated August 26 at all.

Two commercial books that price the roster have both moved, and they agree. Over The Cap and Spotrac each list five men on San Francisco's injured reserve, and it is the same five: Ricky Pearsall at $3,419,563, Patrick Taylor at $565,000, Darrick Forrest at $565,000, Andrew Farmer at $540,000 and Mikail Kamara at $515,000. Both total $5,604,563. Neither carries Leo, McLachlan or Thomas anywhere on the page. Spotrac's transaction feed dates the McLachlan waiver August 24 and the Thomas waiver August 25, which is what the wire has.

The club's own roster page does not agree. Counted table by table Wednesday at 2:51 p.m. PT, it reads 89 on the active table, two on Active/Physically Unable to Perform, one on Reserve/Left Squad and seven under Reserve/Injured. The seven are those same five, plus Titus Leo and Xavier Thomas. Seven less five is two, and the two are the men the league says already left.

None of the three lasted long enough for a reader to have learned him. Off the club's own log: McLachlan signed July 25 and was waived with an injury designation six days later. Leo signed August 2 and was waived the same way on August 18, sixteen days. Thomas signed August 12 and was waived the same way on August 20, eight days. Two of the three are defensive linemen. The log records each of those waivers. It records none of the three leaving.

The list Shanahan read out is a list about the 53#

Being on injured reserve at a cutdown and being on it after one are different jobs. A player moved there during the cut from 90 to 53 is finished for the season. A player who makes the 53 and is placed there afterwards misses at least four games and can come back.

So Tuesday's answer was a roster answer. Matt Maiocco, at the availability, wrote that "some of the 49ers' injured players are considered candidates to open the season on injured reserve, including wide receiver Christian Kirk (calf), offensive lineman Vederian Lowe (ankle) and linebacker Nick Martin (hamstring)." The word is "including," so that is not the whole list. David Bonilla's account of the same session names Kirk and Lowe and not Martin, so the third name is Maiocco's alone.

Shanahan, asked whether Kirk was one of them: "Possibly. We've got a number of guys like that, so we've got to see how that pans out here over the next few days."

Martin hurt the hamstring late in the August 20 game at the Chargers and the coach gave no detail beyond the body part that night. The 53-man tracker moved him from a seven to a six on Wednesday, which is what it did to Kirk and Lowe a day earlier off the same sentence. He stays inside the projection. San Francisco traded for a seventh linebacker on Tuesday.

Wednesday#

The club held a walk-through and closed it. It also hosted free-agent defensive end Jah Joyner on a visit, per the league's transaction report by way of Bonilla. Joyner came out of Minnesota undrafted in 2025, spent that preseason with the Raiders and spent this spring in the UFL. The 49ers play the Raiders on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. PT.

Nick Bosa's knee has a name in print. Bonilla writes that Bosa "missed much of training camp due to tendinitis in his surgically repaired knee," and carries Shanahan: "He's doing good. Hoping that he can get into practice next week and we'll see how those three days go after the mandatory three days off." The club's own Tuesday list says soreness. Both are on the record and neither replaces the other.

Renardo Green is the largest unresolved thing on this roster. The club's Day 17 recap, published Tuesday at 4:00 p.m., lists "CB Renardo Green (hamstring)" among the men who remained sidelined. Shanahan said after the August 20 game that the club would "get more imaging on that tomorrow to see if he pulled it." No result of that imaging has been published since. That is six days, on a cornerback who was starting outside when camp opened, and the roster is due Sunday.

Mike Evans has two body parts on file and both stay there. The club says he missed Tuesday with groin tightness and is expected back next week; Maiocco dates the onset to Sunday. Bonilla has him dealing with the groin "after previously missing time with a quad strain." Neither item corrects the other.

The rest of Tuesday's non-participants, with what the coach said about each. Dominick Puni cleared the concussion protocol, practised, reported residual symptoms afterwards and is likely to re-enter it. Jacob Cowing (groin) and Upton Stout (hip flexor) are expected back next week. Robert Jones (calf) and Austen Pleasants (knee) are hoped for the three practices before the flight. Kurtis Rourke broke three ribs in the opener against Tennessee and could return after the days off. George Kittle was cleared off the physically-unable-to-perform list on Sunday, has practised twice and has still not taken an eleven-on-eleven snap.

Twenty-one players missed Tuesday's practice, not counting injured reserve or the physically-unable-to-perform list. That is the last full practice this camp gets, and the club's own page still says two of the men it lists are here.

Left Guard Is Down To Two And The Last Practice Of Camp Is Over

San Francisco practised for the last time in training camp on Tuesday morning and Kyle Shanahan said afterwards that the left guard competition is close to being decided between Connor Colby and Carver Willis, with Robert Jones removed from it by a calf injury Shanahan put at around the Australia trip. Matt Maiocco had Willis taking the first-team snaps. Dominick Puni practised and then reported residual symptoms and is most likely back in the concussion protocol. Shanahan named Christian Kirk and Vederian Lowe as possible candidates to start the season on injured reserve, hedging both. Mike Evans, Jacob Cowing, Upton Stout, Romello Height, Kyle Juszczyk, Kirk, Kurtis Rourke and Nick Bosa did not practise across two published absence lists that do not match. Height's injury is an ankle and Juszczyk's finger is fractured. The 49ers play at Las Vegas on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. PDT and the roster is due at 53 at 3:00 p.m. PT on Sunday.

The 49ers' First Depth Chart Lists Demarcus Robinson As A Starting Receiver

San Francisco released its first unofficial depth chart of 2026 on Tuesday morning, with Demarcus Robinson at a starting receiver spot, and then held a joint practice with the Tennessee Titans. The chart is a health document: Ricky Pearsall has been on season-ending injured reserve since August 1, Christian Kirk has not practised a session of camp, and Mike Evans suited up Tuesday and did not compete. Two published readings of the chart disagree about where De'Zhaun Stribling sits, and two counts of the practice disagree about how many passes he caught. Nick Bosa missed a fifth straight practice, and Kyle Shanahan said the knee has tendinitis related to the ACL recovery. Two Titans tackles were ejected from a session that had scuffles on three of the first four plays.

Six Grade Changes, Eight Transactions, And Not One Name Has Crossed The Line

The first weekly column off the 53-man tracker. Six days of camp produced six grade changes, four players in and four out, and not one of them changed which 53 men this site projects onto the initial roster. What the confidence grade measures, why Vederian Lowe lost a point without his job being in question, and the count that explains the churn: 87 active players plus four on the physically-unable-to-perform list is 91 bodies, which under either reading of the league limit leaves zero open spots.

Vederian Lowe Lasted Three Snaps

The 49ers opened camp Sunday, signed a defensive lineman they have employed since 2019, and got three snaps out of the man they are counting on to stand behind a 38-year-old left tackle.

Demarcus Robinson is on the San Francisco 49ers' initial 53-man roster on 2026-08-30. The take is WRONG if he is waived, released, traded, or placed on any reserve list that removes him from the initial 53, and it is WRONG if he reaches the initial 53 only by way of a practice squad agreement. It is CORRECT only if he is on the active 53 the club submits.

The club's first unofficial depth chart, released on the morning of August 11 ahead of the preseason opener, lists Robinson at a starting receiver spot. The caveat is the club's own and it is why this is a call rather than a certainty: the communications staff compiles that chart and the coaching staff does not typically review it before it goes out, per David Bonilla at 49ers Webzone. The supporting evidence is attendance. Ricky Pearsall is on injured reserve for the season, Mike Evans suited up for the Tennessee joint practice and did not compete, Christian Kirk had not practised a single session of camp as of August 5, and De'Zhaun Stribling missed three sessions with a hamstring; Grant Cohn, at the August 11 practice, writes that Robinson has not missed a day and had him making two catches in the end zone. Kyle Posey and Rohan Chakravarthi at Niners Nation, the same morning, wrote that the debate a few weeks ago was whether Robinson would make the roster at all and that injuries have made him a lock. The case AGAINST it: everything above is a health story, San Francisco keeps six receivers on this projection, and three of the men ahead of him get healthy between now and August 30. A veteran whose case is built on other people's injuries is the first name squeezed when those injuries end.
